Rim Trail Hike, It’s All in the Details

So much of what I do involves poking around the edges of an idea, eating the proverbial elephant one bite at a time.  In order to get a sense of the training I’d have to do to prep to walk 7-10 miles/day for days on end, I laid out a tentative training schedule for the first 23 of 33 weeks I have to train for this venture to see how it looks, how doable it seems…

33 Weeks to work up to 10 miles/day for 17 days straight

3 times/week – 15 weeks (15)

  • 3.0 miles – Jan 22
  • 3.5 – Jan 29
  • 4.0 – Feb 5
  • 4.5 – Feb 12
  • 5.0 – Feb 19
  • 5.5 – Feb 26
  • 6.0 –  March 5
  • 6.5 – March 12
  • 7.0 – March 19
  • 7.5 – March 26
  • 8.0 – April 2
  • 8.5 – April 9
  • 9.0 – April 16
  • 9.5 – April 23
  • 10.0 – April 30

4 times/week – 4 weeks (19)

  • 10.0 – May 7
  • 10.0 – May 14
  • 10.0 – May 21
  • 10.0 – May 28

5 times/week – 4 weeks (23)

  • 10.0 – June 4
  • 10.0 – June 11
  • 10.0 – June 18
  • 10.0 – June 25

It helps ease my mind that this schedule gives me an extra 10 weeks to decide where to go from there, training-wise, to adjust what I’m doing and still hit my target distances.  And, with an eased mind, I can tackle the next baby-step towards my BHAG!!
