Oh, the SHAME!!
When you finding yourself the ONLY ONE sitting, head hung low, on the water cooler, banished to the far end of the motorcycle safety course, while everyone tries to not meet your eyes across the acres of concrete, continuing on with their practical test, when you’ve…
FAILED!!!
As in, you punched the gas too fast, hit only the front brakes, instead of the front and back simultaneously, locked up the rear tire and… dumped the motorcycle… during the final exam – the ONE and ONLY big no-no!!
Worse, it’s on your birthday, and everybody has made such a big point of it all day long, sang you happy b-day, ugh!!!, and you were riding such a high from (relatively speaking, hahaha) nailing one lesson after another.
S-turns
90 degree turns
U-turns
Braking in a curve
Swerving
Dammit!!
Fortunately, discretion IS the better part of valor, as in it’s at the discretion of the instructors to let you retest one and only one time, the part you “missed” if they feel that you’ve been demonstrating competence throughout the course.
My instructor did a quickie setup while everyone else went back to the classroom, still avoiding eye contact on their way out. I ran through the blown exercise.
Success!!
Flew across campus, rejoined the class, took the final paper exam, and…. Passed the motorcycle safety course!!
Stretch: Again, EVERYTHING!! lol
