Motorcycle Riding, The Problem With…

I blew into our hometown in Ohio from Tennessee after dark, but just couldn’t wait to see the new bike David had picked up– it came with a salvage title and a greatly reduced price – all he had to do was a replace a turn signal and take care of a little extra legwork on the paperwork for the deal.

The problem with using the Competence to Confidence approach to learning something new is that you quickly blow through one level after another of competence.  In practical terms, this means I’ve only have Vivie for 2.5 months, tops, and I’ve already known for a little bit that I’ve outgrown her and am ready for the next challenge.  This makes me sad, because as I’ve said many times…

I LOVVVVEEEE her!!  She’s the reason I can even contemplate the next step.  She was the perfect size for me and all of my experiments in riding.

And, this feels like a bit of a jump, going from a 250cc bike to an 800.  And this one is taller.  Where I can plant my feet solidly on the ground with Viv, with my knees bent, this one is going to require me to be on my tippy toes when I’m stopped.  And she feels enormous by comparison!!  Whew!!  Glad that all I had to do tonight was just sit there, take a pic, and let it all sink in, nothing more!  There will be a day I tackle my first ride, but that day is not today!!
