The curious pattern I now see tackling new interests and endeavors is that of periodically finding myself starting all over again, at a new Ground 0. Riding feels comfortable, I nailed my 320-mile overnight solo trip, hopped on a bigger bike, and easily headed out for a long afternoon ride.
Now, there is this, tentative-as-of-yet goal of riding 2000 miles back across the country on my new Triumph Tiger 800. And, now it’s time to start ticking through the to-do list items I’d laid out for myself, for gaming the mini-expedition in my favor.
So, you start, with first things first…
The seat height on the bike is an unknown quantity. I asked David called a bike shop in Phoenix to see about lowering my bike, if it’s possible. The kid, Zach, said it involved parts, and a guesstimate cost of $500-600 to do. So, we’re setting that info on the back burner for the time being. We’ve eked out .8” lower with a new factory seat he bought off of Ebay. My adventure boots probably give me another 1”. He still need to go out and check on the seat setting of the bike in Ohio, to determine if it is on the high or low setting to see how it will compare with the more recent bike – if it’s on its lowest setting, it’s a bit tall for me, but if it’s at its highest setting, them, I’m sitting pretty!! 😉
Baby steps, one in front of the other. I’ve been in this position many times now, so I know, if I just keep taking them, baring things out of my control, I will arrive at my objective.
